Description:
Scarce tree that reaches a height of 6 meters. Produces a cherry-colored flower all year round. The spherical fruit is initially green in color, turning brown when it matures, in the month of April. The fruit is dried and used to make chocolate cups. The more oval-shaped fruits can be used to make a spinning top known as xiga bizunu, which makes a whirring noise when spun. The fruit is considered to have a variety of medicinal properties. To treat asthma, the pulp is prepared together with powdered brown sugar, eucalyptus and cinnamon, boiled and fermented to make a syrup. It can also be used for enemas, and to treat women who have difficulty becoming pregnant. In both cases it is boiled, filtered, left to cool and used either as a beverage or an enema.
